I’m replacing the clutch in my 1962 k-20 with the 235 engine, sm420 transmission with the hydraulic clutch with the passenger side slave cylinder. 10 inch diaphragm clutch. Truck is pretty much all original. There are two holes on the clutch fork. The shop manual says the outer hole is to be used with the 235, the inner is for the 261 and 283. Mine was set up using the inner hole when I got it. If I try to use the outer hole, there is too much angle from the slave cylinder. The inner hole is pretty much a straight shot. I’m concerned that using the inner, there will be too much throw in the fork, which would wear out the pressure plate. Should there be a spacer behind the slave cylinder on a 235? Moving away from the block would make it a straight shot to the outer hole. Does anyone have a picture if so? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

Attached is pix of 62 with 235. I believe all to be as it was. No issues yet with clutch or slave cylinder. Can't say I know which clutch is installed. No spacer.
Interesting knowledge though. I was not aware of the utility of inner or outer notch hole. I have both 62 with 283, and 62 with 235. Both inner hole currently.

Thanks, I appreciate your response. I also googled for pics of 235s and the two I found were also using the inside hole. I’m thinking that is the correct setup. When I took my clutch apart, it had the short throw out bearing with the diaphragm clutch, and the linkage adjusted long to make it work…made me wonder about the slave cylinder given what I read in the book. I have the new clutch in, with the long bearing now. I don’t have it on the road yet, but it seems to be working well.

My 62 C10 uses the inner hole on the arm.

1962 C10 with a 235 6cyl -- all of the drive train seems to be original.
Some of this story is in the Side Lot
Some people like a new truck. I liked the old ones.
