The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts Intake Manifold

Good Morning. I bought and started working on '48 Chevy 2-ton flatbed about a month ago. Thanks for having this site as it's provided alot of usefull and inspirational information. Somewhere along the line someone put a '56 235 in the truck and my question is this. Since truck engines sit relatively level was there a stock intake manifold that did not have the elevation offset in it so that the carb sat level too?? Thanks for all your help.

I'm not real sure I know what your asking...to the best of my knowledge the car and truck motors all sit at almost the exact same angle, slightly lower in the rear, not level.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. I see what you are saying, but my engine sits pretty level to where the carb is tipped forward. Maybe the engine mounts on the front need shimmed up. I don't think it hurts anything... I was mostly curious, plus the air cleaner would look nicer if it was level. Thanks.

a 56 235 mounts differently than a 48 ... whoever put the engine in may not have rigged the front mounts properly

Thanks for the reply Bill. I'll look at it more closely to see what was done. Maybe I can shim it up to where it should be.
