What is your preferred assembly lube? and any reasons why?
LubriPlate? Amsoil? Permatex? Melling? Etc?

I used to use STP as assembly lube, but every engine I built with the stuff seemed to have oil-related problems. I even built one more engine just convince myself it was a fluke- - - -and that one spun a rod bearing! Jerry

Camshafts get black sticky break-in grease. Once the lubed cam is in place then work to get it closed up. Early on used GM EOS (cam lube) kinda messy. Probably lubriplate,gonna prime it anyway, never did pack any oil pump of any brand. Lately with all this cam/lifter trouble not sure what is best for our low spring pressure cams. Some use outboard motor gear lube,some gun grease,so ??? Like Hotrod said try to do just right...spin a bearing. | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 | There are several brands of this, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-camlube625 , its a black sticky grease that won't just wipe off, use it on camshaft and lifters. Don't use a liquid type on a cam, 90% percent of will be in the pan before you get it fired up. As for grease in the oil pumps, it shouldn't be needed, I usually pull new pumps apart to clean them, then add some assembly lube. If it's a used pump, I dump oil in it and go.
