Good Evening my fellow Big Bolts
I have made quite a bit of progress in taking apart my 56 Chevy 6400. A week ago I took of the driver's side front fender in order to easily get to the engine. Last week I took off the oil bath air cleaner. Today I took off the following parts, the carb. I noticed the plastic spacer under the carb has a crack.. bummer... I also noticed the exhaust manifold has a crack. Bummer again ! Well, anyway I got the manifolds off, the distributor, the coil, the crank case breather, the valve cover, took the battery out.
I tapped gently on all the valves once I got the valve cover off. I noticed there are a few stuck valves.
So, that's where I'm at right now. I can't wait to get the head off and see how much damage was done by having antifreeze in the number 3 cylinder.
Maybe tomorrow morning I'll go out there and take the head off. I've been reading posts and they say the head weighs 60 pounds.. I don't think I'll have a problem lifting that !! I'm a 51 year old plumber and I have to lift a sewer cleaning machine into my truck once or twice a week, and that thing weights 275 pounds.
