I have a '71 factory overhaul manual, but there is no listing in the torque specs for the 292, only the 250. For the 250, it says 11/32-24 bolts and 35 ft/lbs. This 292 has 3/8-24 bolts, like a small block, and the small block are torqued to 45 ft/lbs.
Con rod bolts are kind of critical, would hate to use the wrong torque on them. Anyone know for certain what the correct torque value is?

292 connecting rod torque: 40 ft./lbs. A 292 runs the same part number connecting rod bearing as a small block V8- - - -2.100" standard size.

And yes, I figured that about the bearings. Explains why the rod bearings were like $1 each, while the mains were $10 each!

John | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,803 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,803 | I use a slightly modified 292 connecting rod when I'm putting a 235 crankshaft and pistons into a 216 engine block and eliminating the Babbit bearing rods and the spray-oiler lubricating system. It turns a 216 into a 235 and still looks like an original 216.
