First oil change, first canister change!
...
Removed the bolt for the canister, but the top won't come off.

Is it just stuck or is there something else in need to do?

Also, it looks like there's a place on the bolt for an O-ring maybe?

Top Off, filter out. The canister is full of oil. Should it be? I going to hand pump it out.

The cannister drains through a small hole in the center tube, about 1/3 of the length from the top. In other words, the cannister should be about 2/3 full, not totally full. I use a turkey baster to remove the residual oil.

Some filter housings have a drain plug in the bottom that makes the lob a little less messy. If a canister doesn't have a drain, it's an easy job to drill a hole, braze a pipe fitting in, and plug it.

Pumped it out, cleaned it out.
The oil was pretty nasty looking.

All back together!
