I need your help!! I have a stock 1946 Chevrolet Truck and I just spent 2 hours trying to remove the seat, with no luck, (going to replace windlace and recover the seat). How in the heck do you get the seat out? I can get the bottom to pull outward and I know that there are two prongs on the back that slide into the lower section.
But for the life of me, I can’t get the back to turn loose.
What holds the top of the back of the seat in? What am I missing? Is there a clip, a bolt, what?

I'm not familiar with '46 trucks, but on the later trucks (47-55.1), the seat back cushion is held in place on top with two brackets and screws at the top of the seat frame. Take a look up there.

Thanks klhansen, but the 46 doesn’t appear to have that loop and bolt. There is no exposed bar around the 46 seat.

Maybe you have to take the frame off the floor to get the seatback off? Screws on the backside?

Lift the seat bottom up and slide a 4' length of 2x4 under the seat bottom about half way back. Push down on the front of the seat cushion and the seat back will rise up and release from the cab. Fold the seat back forward and slide the seat out the door.

Haven’t had a chance to test it yet. We had folks over last night for New Years Eve and then again today…..so the wifey won’t let me go out to the garage!! LOL!! Plan on trying it this afternoon after our guests leave.

UPDATE: The seat put up one heck of a fight, but it’s out now. For the record, the back of the seat “lifts up” to remove. It has two downward facing pegs that fit into slots in the back of the cab. You have to lift the seat back “up” to clear those slots.
I had to pry, hit, wiggle and yell a little…..but it finally came loose. Probably hasn’t been out in 50 years or more, LOL.
