1950 Chevy 1300 5-window
"HiPo Project in Canada"

Hi Everyone!

I’m brand new to participating on the forums. We are from Saskatchewan Canada.

The truck I am rebuilding to a driving truck not a show truck was bought brand new by my wife’s great uncle in 1950. In 1973 her Dad purchased it and drove it until 1976. From that point on, it slowly sank into the earth when I hauled it home in 2013.

The truck remained put until Dec 2021 when I decided to tackle it. A lot bigger project than I counted on and since it is not a show truck don’t critique me to harshly. Not everything is or is going to be perfect.

We are mounting it on a 2000 Jimmy 4x4 which I don’t recommend doing a 4x4. We extended the frame to match the 1950 and since the floor boards were rusted out of the 1950, we married the Jimmy floor boards into the '50 cab. All impressions for transmission, shift consul, pedals and seats were already there so no fabricating for any of that stuff.

I kept the 4.3 liter engine and automatic transmission. I have hours and hours of work I could talk about this build but I’m sure everyone on here has been through it.

I’m open to suggestions and questions.

The pictures I will attach are random points in the build which isn’t done yet.

Welcome Djg wave

That is very cool that you are bringing back a piece of your family's history! thumbs_up

From your posted pictures (very much appreciated BTW), you seem to have a great deal of work already accomplished.

The workmanship looks fantastic, and must say your approach to merging the later chassis is very interesting.

Your project will fit perfectly in The HiPo SHop when it comes to further discussions or questions.

Your experiences and inside info on what it takes to achieve your goal would be a great thing to share with the community.

Looking forward to your future posts (and more pics of course)! pix

That's a lot of pictures. Hope you'll have explanations to go along with them. When people are searching the site (and even searching in the internet), some of those *words* you use to go along with the photos, will help folk find your project (and others).

"Captions" with the pictures are a plus, plus, plus for us lookers. thumbs_up Looking forward to seeing what you've got.

Installed the sun visors and keyless lock system. Got the brackets from Trique, well worth the money. I know someone will notice the arms are wrong on the latch. I did that on purpose so they laid in that track. Put the left on the right and the right on the left. Handle is pointed up no big deal.

I really like the color choice for the truck.

That is an awesome "Blue" IMO.

Work clearly progressing well. Keep up the progress reports! thumbs_up

Your build is coming along nicely and your paint is killer. I also really like the color. What paint did you use and what color is it?

I'm sure it seemed that way. Your first post here was Dec 22. Your update in July of 23 -- not sure what your "view number" was before the update here. But as of today, you have over 1,350 views. thumbs_up I think you'll find your views will continue to go up. Lots of people read; few post. headscratch Never really know why that is but we have seen many who even say, "I've been reading for years now and thought I'd post ...." or something like that. We're glad they posted; we're glad they are reading.

Keep those updates coming. We are enjoying them very much.

On a personal note, I really like your clean garage. thumbs_up

Bed wood looks outstanding, as does the entire truck!

Any idea on when your first "test drive" may be happening???

Would be great to see that here as well as a posting in the Stovebolt Driving Report. (Just a little hint - haha!) thumbs_up

Truck is basically completed a few items to complete. Bed boards all fastened down they were a real PITA to reach all bolts. We did the running boards this weekend proved to be a real challenge left no room for error.

Did you raise up that floor in the bed? The sides look awfully short. If you mentioned this before I must have missed it.
The truck looks great! Beautiful job!

Yes I lowered the truck sheet metal that moves the box down and the bed must stay because of frame.
