The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 1948 Chevy Truck Shocks

We are working on a 1948 Chevy Truck that has single action shock absorbers, three of which are just not economically feasible to repair. So, we will be using Chevy’s of the 40s kit that installs tube shocks. The kit mimicking the 1950s and later shocks configuration. However, the kit doesn’t come with a template for locating the shock supports that will hold the tube shock at the top, bolted to the frame. Any past experiences with these kits is greatly appreciated.

Can't speak for the CPP kit, but the GM oem uppers used the same mounting holes as the lever action. They were at an angle and only used 3 of the 4 holes on the bracket.

Thanks Whitedog. The search that I’ve done for the supports installation do illustrate that only three bolts are used for the uppers. You just revealed something I had not found, that being that new supports can pick up the holes used on the single action shocks. A friend provided me one new upper support so I’ll use it to see if I can do what you’ve said.
