I was wondering if the chicken rest bumper filler was an option or did all AD trucks have them and that most just got removed and lost?

What did GM call that part?

Funny. GM often chooses odd nomenclature for things such as "wheel discs" for hubcaps. I didn't expect it to be that obvious.

It's time to get rid of the old '57 fire truck chassis, so I fired up the '56 tow truck to do the heavy lifting and winched it out of it's 10 year resting place. She's not pretty, but she still puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel!

Looks sweet to me. If it’s licensed, and you’re towing down the road, you’re going to get a lot of thumbs up!

It wouldn't need to be licensed (other than a regular tag) if he only towed his own cars and didn't hire it out.

I got it the way you see it...the PO put the Cab/Front Clip on a 3500 Dually Rollback. The front mount fire pump stayed with the 3rd owner back...don't know what happened to the engine/trans.

Here's another picture of me working her!

The truck is tagged and street legal, but I don't tow with it other than around my property.

Here's a picture of me moving a 30' grain trailer that I sold a few years ago. I had to move it up to the street so it could be loaded on a lowboy trailer that was hauling it to Canada.

By the way, I passed Sean the other day in that rollback on Rt 234. He hasn't painted it yet but at least that project is on the road.

Now that he's retired guess he's had time to get it on the road...

I sent the remains of the fire engine to the scrap man yesterday...I did save the rear tow hook eye's, front axle, (2) 22.5" rims, vacuum tank, Hydrovac, steering box and Eaton 2-speed shift motor.

Resurrecting this thread while the original is being worked on.

Update .... as you can see, we got a few more posts back in here. The nature of the UBB program, we can move them back over but they come in date order. AND, we can't delete THIS post (no longer necessary) because it's the first post in the thread. Dear me ...

Carry on.

Mike B Nothing wrong with using our trucks,it's what they are for. I've worked at places where they expected you to use the trucks and treat em with respect for their paint, their gears, the glass, the whole works !! My winch truck teachers were very careful on all of that. A real winch truck that will put wickers on the wire lines in a hard pull and raise the whole truck off of the ground can damage a lot in an instant. Gotta be ready if you put the skid plates down !!

Cut down two live oak trees that had succumbed to oak wilt a few years ago. Cut up parts that were not too big in diameter, threw them in the back of my '52 GMC and delivered them to a neighbor who is on hospice care for firewood.

Ed Pruss Just saw your autocrane,I have the first generation autocrane, only thing power is the actual lifting. Have used it for all kinds of stuff,is good for about a ton. Mounted mine higher at the back of the cab, learned early on with your nose downhill, you pick up something heavy it will swing around and kill your fenders upfront. Gin poles get crown pully up to 13 ft. 6 hook hangs right at tail roller. Your GMC looks good, doesn't hurt to use em,had big fun with winch trucks for oh 60 years I guess.

Thanks. Since I fixed the headlights I don't have to worry about getting home before sundown or leaving before sunrise so it comes up in the vehicle rotation more often than it did.

We had the same problem with some of old trucks ... watchful of the daylight. Especially for the one that was mostly used on the farm. Quick trip to the dump had to be during daylight hours. Usually waiting for the lamps to arrive ...
