Cool and dry - Good. Hot and moist - probably not so good.
You'd probably have to pull the fuel pump apart and look at the condition of the diaphragm. If it's cracked, it would need to be replaced.

If more than 10 years or so, it probably doesn't have an ethanol resistant diaphragm even if the rubber isn't cracked or dried out.
I'd plan on rebuilding it if you're uncertain of the rebuild date.
