Got up at 5 am frost on '51 6400 . pickup lit off shortly bi-metal contact on light switch opened but came right back. 2 speed axle balked a little, went in neutral for an instant then shifted. noticed rubber humping kinda bad and 2-speed axle kinda out of balance. Have learned to downshift then upshift. balance is OK then, usually.

Truck will have a few issues in the cold, but aim to drive all winter if the roads are fit for it.

Hope to go to a show at Vincennes University on 10-22-22 about an 80 mile round trip.

Was out on furnace trouble yesterday. saw a magnetic sun umbrella that might work OK on my no-paint steel (heavy) bed. have to look at that closer. Be good when hanging out on the tail gate. Is made for the service guy out on the hot roof working on A/C. Graduated from V.U. in 1969. best teacher is now about 87 so need to help him keep going!! Car show had 168 entries perfect day,good time,about 90 miles,no trouble.

A couple of weeks ago I took the '57 LCF to a little car show about 5 - 6 miles from my house, the speedometer was squealing real bad, it did the same thing last year in colder weather. Last week I removed the gage cluster, removed the speedo, disassembled it enough to lube the bronze input shaft bushing, put it all back together. Took the truck for a 20 mile drive to do some chores, quiet and smooth and much more accurate reading than I have seen in the past. I love the way these girls were built, repairable components!

78buckshot What did you lube your speedometer with ?? I recall some old guy that sold a lube. He would have a real smooth running speedo display at the meets. In Indy I think.

I used gun oil or clock oil, something very light. I don't know if I'll have to lube it more often but I think the bronze bushing should hold the oil for a while.

Mine was seized up, I used broil to free it, and then lubed the felt pad with ALG "Go juice" gun lube. Supposed to be non-gumming.

78 Buckshot Makes sense ,thought I might use MMO but light gun oil probably be best. Thankyou for the reply. Wonder if you could put a pad in a speedometer nut and lube that bushing overnite to let the bushing have time to soak in some oil ??

high plains What is broil ? My son is a reloader think I saw some Winchester gun oil on his bench,haven't heard of ALG Go juice though. Mostly count on marvel mystery oil for penetrent use PB too. My 51 6400 has working speedo,2-speed shifter box on speedo,2 speed axle shifts fine. My speedometer hand rubs on the glass but once it flys up to 35 or so is OK. I just hate to tear it out of there for that one problem,it's better in warm weather. Whole truck is just pretty good,needs a little floor board work.
