The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts Wheel question

I went to a junk yard today (boy was that fun!! Lot's of good stuff there.) looking for a wheel or two for my truck. What I found was a (58 or 59 - not sure which) Viking 38 with a full set (7) 8.00 x 19.5 rims on it (tubeless no less) with what appears to be the right bolt pattern/diameter/center hole size. My question is this; does anyone know if those rims will fit my 49 3800 without rubbing on the tie rod ends or anything else? It looks like the tires are narrow enough so that they won't rub but I didn't have a tape measure so I can't be sure. Also, are there other things to be concerned about as far as fit goes? I've used some 16.5 rims off an early 70s C-30 but they rub since the tire is too wide. I also found an original horn in another truck - it was a good day!!

i think they will fit. the "stand up" 19.5 tires were basically for the r.v.'s and are narrow, while low lo-profile wide tires are for about everything else.

What is a Viking 38? I have a 1958 1 Ton 38 with a stake / hoist bed, but there is no Viking designation. I also have the 8 R 19.5 tubeless rims. They fit mine fine with no rubbing... but they where an option for it, and I like em.

Viking is the term GM applied to the middle weight truck series, like Apache for the light trucks and Spartan for the heavy trucks - the 3800 series was still an Apache, the Viking started with the 4100 1.5T's, but there may have been some options that made some 1T's Vikings
