Would anyone be so good as to hit me over the head and enlighten me as to where the engine attaches to the engine stand?

I'm trying to figure out what size bolts to use when pulling and attaching my 283 V-8 to the engine stand.

Looks like in the pulling process I should put the bolts into the exhaust manifold bolt holes at each corner of the engine.

I'll drive out there today to find measurments of those bolts.

However I'm not sure where the bolt holes are that I should use when bolting the engine to the stand in order to measure them.

As I'm picking up a hoist today (has to go back tuesday morning)and the truck is 60 miles from the nearest parts store, I'm trying to hit the target the first time.

Sorry for all the questions, this is my first engine pull & rebuild (like you couldn't tell) and I'm just trying to figure out how to do it one step at a time.

Well, if your engine stand is anything like the ones I've used, they bolt into the same holes that the bellhousing bolts to at the rear of the engine block. There are 6 holes and 4 arms on the stand. I use the holes at 3 o'clock, 9 o'clock and also the ones at 11 and 1 o'clock or you can use the ones at 10 and 2 o'clock.

The bolts to use are the same diameter and thread as those that fasten the bellhousing....just longer. I think they're 3/8 x 16 or something close to that.

Just take one of the bellhousing bolts to a local hardware store (or rummage thru the spares box) until you find some that are long enough to pass thru the arms on the stand and into the back of the motor...about 4 inches.

Jacob: Chevy is right on! When pulling out of truck promise me, you will use a heavy chain. Hook your chain corner to opposite corner and do not jerk smooth motion when lifting.

Hi, if you bolt a good chain to the corners of the intake manifold (one front right and one left rear) that will bring it out, Now 3 1/2 to 4"long 3/8"s bolts will bolt it to your engine stand now watch out for wires and ground strap when you pull it. have fun Slim
