A battery that sits around, even on a "tender" won't last anywhere near as long as one that gets cycled periodically. Turn the headlights on for a couple of hours, then either drive a few miles or use a medium-rate charger overnight to bring it back to full charge. I've got batteries that have been in service for 5 years or more, but they get exercised regularly. 6 or 12 volts doesn't really matter- - - -the kind of use a battery gets definitely does.

Do a web search for Interstate battery failures.
Typically batteries have a one year or more warranty.
Battery manufacturers hope that customers do not save their purchase receipts or proof of purchase.
Take it back to the place you purchased from and fuss.

I've never put a battery tender on it. I noticed the warranty on the Interstate battery was only 6 months. I just got a Duracell battery from Batteries and Bulbs and it has a year warranty and is made in USA and cheaper. The wait for a Interstate battery was going to be 3 weeks. This tells me it must be coming from China! I sometimes do not start-up and run my 6v 1954 Suburban for over a year. The engine starts up quickly. My bigger concern is fuel in the carburetor (after sitting a long time).
