I was sure that there had to be several discussions on whether to coat the head gasket with anything before install, but didn't see any.
So, I'm asking about all the possible coatings that would be appropriate for a rebuild on a 235 58-62. I have a Felpro head gasket set. I know many prefer the "Best" gaskets, but this is what I have now to work with.

Its best to check with the manufacture. They often specify on the package when you should not use sealer. Felpro are good gaskets. They generally don't require or recommend any sealer. Copper coat in the spray & RTV are good products.

Two years ago I replaced the head on my 261 and decided that even though I still had a couple of copper gaskets in my stash, I wanted to use a fresh gasket and ordered the Felpro blue composite gasket. I did use the copper spray a gasket primarily because I have never had any gasket failures so why mess with success.

It was developed to seal aviation gasoline, and I've never seen an application it didn't work well on. It's also more economical, and a LOT less messy than spray-on sealers. Super 300 is almost black, NOT the 3-D brown brush on liquid.
