I've decided to install turn signals for safety. Stock parking lights on my 54 3100. Would like to convert them to turn signals which would not detract from the stock appearance of my truck. Will have to add another taillight but that would be simple enough. Anyone know where to get the appropriate socket for converting the front parking lights? Thanks.

LMC sells a conversion kit. Basically the socket w/pigtails and a dual filament bulb.

I bought sockets for 1154 bulbs and had to JB weld them in. Tested and work great. Adapted 2 side-marker lights for rear turn signals... using a 4 wire turn signal post that I had on hand from years ago. Should work fine.

I drilled some holes for sockets and used screws to hold them in and epoxy putty to seal them. The LED lights, similar to those below, are really bright. The stock glass lens is used. I don't have parking lights but I could redo things to give me those.

Parking lights. What are those even for? Nobody uses them for parking or they'd run down the battery.

In my working days and when I was using the original lights, I would start the '48 in the dark and park it idling down the driveway and on the street to warm up on a cold, cold (I mean cold) morning. I'd leave the parking lights on.

Ok, here goes...on my 1954 I purchased the turn signal bucket, cancelling cam, lever / knob from classic parts and they work just fine. I went the "factory style reproduction "because I wanted the self cancelling feature after having another driver pull out in front of me because he thought I was turning onto the road he was exiting, and i had not heard or seen that I had not cancelled the turn signal from the last right turn.... I had to brake hard to keep from getting hit. I purchased the parking light/turn signal from The Filling Station and the Taillamp assemblies from Classic parts because they have the most correct pigtail I could find. Other suppliers provided a very cheap two wire cable with no good means of keeping the wires in the double contact terminals. I now have an extra set of taillight assemblies. As far as wiring, used the wiring diagram provided with Classics turn signal bucket which matches the Chevrolet Accessories Installation manual wiring instructions. And, it all works as it should.
