I got caught out tonight in the dark after being in the sun all day. I drove home while the sun was setting and made to the house after dark. My eyes were tired and couldn't see the gauges due to the poor lighting at that time of day. There is only two bulbs between three gauges. I was wondering if you could take some 12v led strip lights and put them around the inside of each gauge. Just adding LED bulbs isn't going to do much, each gauge pod has a few cutouts where the light shines through, so even with the best of everything, very little lights reaches the far side of each pod, the speedometer doesn't get even lighting, so even it's hard to see. You can see the back and where the lights are in the picture I attached.
Since you're referencing LEDs I assume you're converted to 12v? If you are still 6v, Bill Hirsch used to have halogen bulbs made that are WAY brighter than the stock bulb. I use them in my 38. It's not as bright as our modern cars but very viewable. There's also the option of using 316 bulbs. They're twice as bright as the stock bulb. They're shaped a bit longer but fit the housing without issue.

I'm going to work on finding some LED 12v cut to fit light strips, then wrap each pod on the inside so the light goes 360 degrees around each gauge. The way they are now, it's like shining a light across the faces with a dim bulb from a inch away.
