Ok, my 46 is in the shop for new Kingpins and Bushings. They called me to say I need a new axle, because the holes are so badly worn that they can’t replace the bushings and kingpins.
My question; Where can I find a ready to go axle for my ‘46? I’d like to buy a dropped axle, but will take a stock one. But I need it quickly.
Question #2. I see several front asked for the ‘47 up AD series trucks, but not the 41-46 AKs. Will the newer axle fit my 46 truck?

I contacted Sid’s, but they have an 8 to 10 week waiting list and want my axle shipped to them to modify. I need an axle ASAP to get my truck out of the shop…..and according to my shop, my axle is damaged. I need to find one that I can just buy, pay for it, and have it shipped out right away.

Any machinist worthy of the name should be able to bore the king pin holes in the axle oversize and press a sleeve in to restore them to the correct size and shape- - - -probably a lot quicker and less expensive than acquiring another axle. Jerry

That May be the route I have to go. But I’ve got to find a local machine shop that “can” and is “willing” to do the job first. I’d still rather just buy a good,’ready to go axle and have it here in a couple of days.

I don't have a direct source for an axle, but this info may help.
According to a search here: GMpartswiki the March 1954 Parts and Accessories Catalog P&A 30 identifies that the "I beam" front axle for all 1/2 tons from '41 - '54 use the same part number (3656872). See attached screen shots below.
This means basically any unmodified '41-'54 1/2 ton can be a source for a replacement axle. Of course depends on the condition of the axle. So in answer, YES a later model axle (through '54) will fit your '46.

My '37 has a 50's axle under it, they only way I knew that was the king pin size changed some time after '37. So you can go older if you have the correct pin size for the axle.
