What year Chevrolet grill would make the best one for grilling hot dogs?

After that, the grills get too curved (like the '38 - '40 grills or even the '41 to '47 1st grills) and the dogs would just roll off into the coals. You could invert them, I suppose, but then the dogs would just roll down to the bottom and wouldn't cook thoroughly. The Advance Design and newer trucks have grills that are too open -- wouldn't hold anything very well other than, say, a rack of ribs or a whole bologna.
If someone shows up at Winchester with an early '30's truck, lets remove the grill and try it to see if my hypothesis is correct. I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind. You remove the grill, I get the dogs from Billy.

Not sure exactly when I will arrive at this point, I have a couple of things up in the air that I need to sort out but doubt it will be later than mid-day Thursday. Oh yea, major issue with the Stovebolt traveling cooking conveyance. It hasn't been used since last Winchester and I got it out over the weekend and the burner just fell apart. Found a replacement online and had to pay expedited shipping so hopefully I can get it back together in time. As of right now, it looks like I will be hauling a whole lot less junk to Virginia this year......... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,309 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,309 | Carl -- Probably something early '30's or older. We will also need to bring in someone else to remove the grill since I won't be able to make it. I am going to Southern Illinois to the in-laws to catch a groundhog living under the barn and to get a Model T started.

The excitement doesn't seem to be at the level it has been in the past. I hope it is just because Winchester has become such a natural event and occurrence. As always, I am looking forward to it. It should be a good weekend if that little weather event stays out to sea. Campers, don't forget to register yourselves. The money goes along way to help those in need. Also, make sure like last year that we park on the show field unless wrenching or taking a cruise in your truck. I think we had a good lineup in the field and all appreciated it. See everyone in camp. | | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,746 24601 | | 24601 Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,746 | Well ... *I'M* excited. I've already begun packing the Quigley! I'll probably get Charlie on the trailer after work today. Yes, I said TRAILER. One of the things we are going to do at Winchester this year is have a Huck Brakes adjustment seminar ... Billy -- don't forget to ask me about the present I have for the 860 .... (don't get too excited, though ...) I'm hitting the road in one and a wakeup!! And I've already claimed the No. 2 camping spot (90 degrees to Marlow's stern) for the Quigley. I'll be pulling in sometime mid morning on Thursday to meet NAPCOMan for some logistics. Be sure to save a spot for George's camper -- maybe next in line after me? That way, maybe you, Artie and Pat can finish off the horseshoe together? If Hardshell ends up bringing his camper, we can work him in. John -- Its Winchester -- Bring shorts AND rain gear. I'm bringing my long pants and sweat shirts, but considering where you are from, you'll probably be okay with a light jacket at night. But .... ALWAYS bring rain gear to Winchester .... JM BTW, I got your truck dirty today .... and I didn't clean it ...

John John, you have a 59 foot long panel van which sleeps six people comfortably. You will be fine, as well as will a few dear friends and several wonderful acquaintances who will all fit inside of it should there be a slight rain. No worries.
