I was wondering if it was very difficult to swap the drive train of a 56 2-ton into a 42 2-ton. That is 270 straight 6, sm420 tranny and rear axle. I know there will need to be some modifcation to the driveshaft since the 56 is not a torque tube driveline, but will the engine, tranny and axle swap easily? What roadblocks might I face?

you will need to weld pedal mounts onto the bellhousing to use your 42 pedals
you will probably need to move the battery box because of the SM420 hump on the passenger side
get the hydrovac system off the 56 while you are at it
if its 270 gmc into a chevy, make sure you check the length and/or read Tony's 302 gmc into a chevy article
should be a simple swap | | |
