I've got a 1961 chevy speedometer removed, and it seems that it's just seized. Can someone direct me to a past thread to describe how to fix it?
Would just putting a few drops of Kroil where the cable goes in and waiting do the trick?
I don't really want to ruin it, it seems to be pretty nice. It's also from a C40 with 19.5 wheels, so a new one probably wouldn't be accurate.
I was quoted almost 300 dollars from a gauge guy to rebuild it, and I just don't have that laying around right now, but if that's what it takes, I'll do it.

I have seen the advice to put some kroil or pb blaster in them to loosen them up, but the one time I tried that the speedo ended up reading absurdly fast for the rest of its life.

I removed the small brass plug, removed the felt pad, put a few drops of Kroil in there, worked the speedometer cable back and forth, and it freed up.
From there, I hooked the end of the speedometer cable to a drill, put WD40 in there, spun it around some, until a lot of gunk came out.
I then put the straw of a gun scrubber bottle in the hole, and sprayed as I turned drill until it seemed clean.
After that I let it dry, put a couple drops of gun lube on bearing, soaked felt pad put it back in place, and replaced brass plug.

I reinstalled speedometer and it's totally accurate, matches up just right with phone app GPS.
I'm pretty surprised it started working, it was completely seized up and had been for years.
