The registration says it is a 3Ton but the box looks like a fifty dumper 1Ton because of the room between the cab and box for the spare. Is there any way to tell the tonage. And it is possible that someone has changed the box. The box has drop sides and tailgate. It has 20 inch tires and 16 leafs on each spring.
Also where can a fella get some 1 1/2 inch rear wheel cylinders.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You just get your vin number off the cab door post and run it though the "cruncher" in here. Its pretty much acturate. Chevy never made a 3 ton truck. By the discription your give it sounds like a 2 ton. I got rear wheel cylinders from my Napa dealer. They had the master also. Your box sounds more like a modern contractors box. Where you at in Iowa. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | I wasn't aware of anything bigger than a 2 ton in '48 from Chevrolet.. in some areas the 'tonnage' rating on the paperwork has less to do with its actual "rating" as it does the 'tax class' the vehicle is in. It is my understanding that from the factory, the big trucks came with NO BED OR BOX.. so by that line of reasoning, NO box or bed would be 'original'. Run the numbers of the tag in the drivers side door jam thru the Vin Cruncher and that'll tell you if you have a 1, 1.5 or 2 ton truck.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

Only GMC built trucks for GM larger than 2-tons from 47-55. Chevy didn't get bigger models until they ditched the "boat anchor" low-pressure 216 and 235 models. The high-pressure 235, 261 and V8 engines were needed for heavier loads. | | |
