Went and got me a motor today! If I read my cheat sheet right,I know what I got.

Block number-00I8I59 F55M

This was on the bell housing too and stamped-This bellhousing must stay with this engine. Also got the 4speed tranny with it too!

So what do you bolters think," I really what your thoughts cause I want to be sure."

to start that's an engine code, not a block [casting] number - the first part should be all numbers, that is the I's are actually 1's, and it's a sequence number which all started at 1001, so yours is the 17,159th made - for the actual ID the F = Flint plant, the 55 = year, the M = 265 w/ HD clutch I believe if 55's were the same as 56/7 - is that what you think it is?

my thought is if it really is a 55 265, it doesn't have an oil filter or any provision for one, and the oil passage to the lifters goes thru the rear cam bearing, which can be problematic - good luck!

Bill

Hy 49dumper,although I do not have an American book I'm going to hazard a guess, I'll say you have a 265 V8 c/w a dual range 4 speed hydramatic.

For '54 and '55 (1st & 2nd series), the M suffix was for the 235 with Hydramatic from a 3100 series truck. This one was from a '55.1.

That adapter for trans needs to stay with that engine if you use it. Something about the alignment of the torque convertor I think. That's why they numbered both the same.

There was a PTO attachment for the Hydramatics.

Cool, I the 2 big trucks with hydramatics I've seen ran PTOs ran off the transfer case or brownie transmission.

There is a farmer near here with a GMC military truck with a hydramatic that has a hydraulic winch running of the transfercase PTO.

The GMC dump that I have been trying to buy with a 302 and hydramatic has a 2 speed auxiliary trans with PTO that the hydraulic dump runs off.
