Does anyone know of a supplier for new flywheels for the 12 volt 235 engines and have a good part number? I now have 2 flywheels that don't fit, both from Perfection clutch. One unit I got from Summit Racing and it fits some SBC V8 (matches one I have in the shop that came attached to a SM465 transmission and v8 bellhousing). The other I got from Rock Auto and I have no idea what it actually fits. In both instances the on-line application information lists Chevrolet 235, 55-62 and with a 12 inch clutch. One part number is 50-6550 fits ? the other is 50-6504 and fits some SBC or other. Again 12"clutch. I''m trying to get away from the 9 bolt clutch on the 6V flywheel.

Why specify "new"? There are plenty of serviceable used ones out there, maybe only needing resurfacing. Do you need the 139 tooth 6 volt type,or the 168 tooth 12 volt model? Jerry

168 tooth. I looked on ebay and found only 1 and the buy it now price was $149 plus $30 shipping. So, I thought I'd look for "new." Maybe I need a better search term. I'm a long ways from any decent wrecking yards and even then I dispair at finding something that old. All the old wheat haulers are still in use it seems.

Are you looking for 6 bolt pressure plate flywheels, or the very scarce 9 bolt type? I think I've got at least 10 of them at the moment. Also, all it would take to use the 139 tooth flywheel would be a starter change to make the tooth contact pattern correct. Jerry

I have a flywheel that I'm not using. It is part number 3705410. I was told it is for a heavy duty clutch. The online parts manual shows that casting number used for multiple part numbers across several model years.... It would not fit in the bellhousing for my 1953 3100, so I used a different flywheel. PM me if you are interested. The pics are from 2017, when I got it machined. I haven't looked at it since then, so there could be surface rust again, but it was oiled prior to putting it away. Glenn, yes it will. This needs to go to PM to complete.

Somebody besides me will come up against the flywheel/clutch/bell housing issue when switching to a 12V starter or 6-bolt clutch for AD trucks so...
I've done a little research on flywheel part numbers. For trucks there was a bell housing change in '54 and flywheels changed also. Flywheels again changed in 55 from 139-tooth to 168 tooth to accommodate 12V starter. I think the 54 flywheel is unique for HD clutches.
42-53 - 3/4 and 1-tons and apparently some half-tons with heavy-duty clutch - part 3705387 (heavy-duty 9-bolt clutch) 54 and later trucks got a new bell housing, casting number 3835201. 54 Flywheel - part no. 3703579 for heavy-duty clutch. 54 Flywheel for standard-duty clutch - part no. 3704831, appears to include passenger cars. 55-62 235 & 261 w/10-inch clutch - part no. 3705409 55-62 235 & 261 w/11-inch clutch - part no. 3789730
GreyGhost's flywheel part no. 3705410 I'm guessing is 55-62 with 12-in clutch but I don't have the parts book for medium & heavy-duty trucks of that era, only up to C-30. Perhaps he can confirm if it is drilled for 12" clutch.
54-59 list both 10"and 11" diaphragm clutches, so apparently the bell housing change and clutch change from 9 to 6 bolts came in 54. 60-69 lists coil-spring, 11" clutch for 235, 261, and 230 engines.

Attached is a screen shot of the master parts list with the flywheel in question inside the red box. Also attached are 2 pics of the actual flywheel. One shows the surface area that the actual pressure disk is against. It is approximately 10" across. The second pic shows bolt hole to bolt hole. That dimension is approximately 11 1/2 ". Someone else will have to tell us how the actual measurement is made to determine which flywheel this one is.
