I'm Road Worthy, I am new to forums and not sure I am even posting this where it should be. I have a 1951 Chevy Carryall, I've owned it from 1976, it was a daily driver then, but since 1985 it sat & deteriorated back to where I started in'76. This time around , on the rusteration,(she will be in her natural state..no trailer queen.) I'm older, wiser and have more resources to make my truck more "Roadworthy." I named her "Cora" that's another story. She had a 235 6 cylinder but it was tired , a close friend offered up a 261 from a dump truck and I accepted the gift. We promptly plucked the power plant from the '54 2 ton truck, it was transported to my other best friend's place for a quick tear down, the engine passed inspection and shortly taken to the Engine Machine shop a "848" head from the 235 replaced the original head that was cracked through a valve guide. The replacement head was welcomed by the shop and they got busy reworking the new head, the block was cleaned up but the number 4 cylinder sleave had to be replaced. On the 1st rebuild, years ago, it had been over bored to .040, we stayed the course this bore size that makes the engine a 266. At present we are chasing threads and will start reassembling the awaiting engine in the next few weeks, like everyone else we are waiting on parts mainly lower bearings, they have been ordered I have been assured by the website the parts are at the warehouse awaiting shipment... I trust he is trustworthy. I have rebuilt the cab doors and starting on the side windows...OH Boy! I am reading all the past post on this forum including all the night mares on this...LOL! All though there is a ton of information within them, thanx to all that have posted concerning this tedious task. I am really enjoying putting this truck back together & putting my own spin on how she will look. I'll write again on what I am doing to put "Cora the Carryall" back on the road.

Welcome to Stovebolt. A worthy project for sure. You may be the only one around for miles that has one. As little as 15 minutes a day will surprise you at your progress. Be sure to keep us posted with a build thread.
...and don't forget the 848 head will need the coolant holes drilled, at a 12 degree angle, to match the holes of the block. You can use a 261 head gasket to mark them.

I have a 261 in my 50 coupe. Good engine for sure.

Welcome to the site. You should be happy with the 261, I ran one for years in my '53 half ton. Waiting for parts is part of this hobby. Good luck!

Post some pics when you get a chance. Sounds like a great project. I also have that same setup, 261 and an 848 head, in a 51 2 door sdn. You're going to love it. pix
