I am replacing the gas tank in may 52, just got it. Should I paint it or just put it in. I painted the old one and it still looks good, but does it do any good? Or is this just a personal preference question?

Were they painted from the factory? I'm pretty sure the one in my 1954 3604 , that I have since replaced, was not painted. I didn't paint the new one.

For me, personal preference. My 52 cab interior is original and I did not like the looks of that new bright metal playing peek a boo from behind the seat. Painted the top black to hide it.

On my truck, the part of the tank near the ends and top mainly had overspray on them, telling me the cab interior was painted with the tank installed, but they didn't waste paint on them.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.
