The photos check out with heavy truck features and the block casting number checks out and it has captan's bars. It's painted yellow. The head however shows a casting number of 848. I did not know that head was used on 261s. If it's the higher compression 235 head so much the better but if it's not a factory installation I'm tempted to pull the head and check for the extra cooling holes between the siamesed cylinders. If that was a factory installation I'll leave it alone at least for the 90-day warranty period.
Anybody know if the 848 head was factory installed on 261s? 1951 3800 1-ton"Earning its keep from the get-go"In the DITY Gallery1962 261 (w/cam, Fenton headers, 2 carbs, MSD ign.), SM420 & Brown-Lipe 6231A 3spd aux. trans, stock axles & brakes. The stock head was a 3836850 and more than likely it developed a crack. Back in the day it was a lot cheaper to find a replacement from a junkyard rather than repair the original. I think the consensus is that the extra cooling holes are only necessary when you want your truck to do heavy duty hauling. The engine has the early version PCV system. I would ask for the original oil bath air cleaner since it is has the connection to the valve cover.
