i'm curious about what exactly it is that i have. it's on my 1950 6400, the hoist mechanism is a harsh twin scissor unit (off the tag i found) but i don't know if it's original, or even close. The dump frame is labelled "illinois" at the back, and that's all i know about it. does anyonw know anything about either of these, or if they're original?

As Mike said, all that stuff is aftermarket. There used to be a couple guys on here that knew a lot about this stuff, but they haven't been on here for quite a while.
Really no way of proving that unless you have some paperwork--original receipts or perhaps an original purchase order. A 70 year old truck could have had that equipment changed out several times in it's lifetime.
