Buy it when you see it. I relearned that lesson this last weekend. I was at the Pate Swap Meet in Fort Worth and found a vendor who had a 15" reproduction of the 49-53 steering wheel. It was late, I was tired, and my space was on the other side of the meet. I didn't want to carry it around while I finished shopping. I decided to come back next morning. I got there at 10:15, just in time to see some dude walking off with the last two the vendor had. The vendor didn't think he would get them again, as he had bought the last six from a distributor who had discontinued them. So, if you've made it through my whining, here's my question. Does anyone know where these came from? Has anyone else seen them? Do you know of any vendors who have them?
Tangent -- back when I worked in industry, I was chided that we were supposed to call them "suppliers", because vendors were the guys who sold hot dogs at the ball park. So apologize to anyone who takes offense -- none intended.
Then power steering is added, then later it is realized, the 18" original steering wheel is now too big. There are 15" steering wheels that will fit but they don't look like a 49-53 truck wheel. Reducing the size of a stock wheel is possible but it requires a fair amount of manual work so only a few go this route. There is one company that reduces and recasts to a result that looks brand new. Labor costs are high.
Personal problems belong in the Greasy Spoon forum. (Being 2-3 biscuits shy of steering wheel interference, I feel quite confident in this recommendation. I may retract this statement by Sunday however, since now I'm hungry for biscuits.)

A friend of mine made a small steering wheel for his 50' Coupe, he used 3 steering wheels altogether to get correct scale. A lot of work although it looked great.

Leon To bad you missed that wheel,as I recall my first build in 67 I shortened the column and used a smaller custom wheel. Now my daily driver is a 51 6400 which steers much better with the addition of corn head grease,of course in 67 was much stouter and rarin to truck !! Think 6400 most be 17 inch wheel.
