I've had this stashed for years, got it from a 65 w/ 292. Questions 1: will it work on HEI system.
#2, wiring, is this correct: from rear view, l.h. stud pink wire: switched ign 12v, r.h. - brown tach input from coil.

Thanks for the input.

I expect it will work on an HEI system. Are you using aftermarket or GM HEI?

HEI, just like the Trans, S10 parts.

There were usually only 2 connections on the S10 HEI (at least the one I owned)...as I recall one was red and one was green. Green fed impulses to the tach. I expect the green wire would connect to your brown wire and your pink wire would be + from ignition. Ground would be the instrument cluster although I can't tell what that other wire is in your image up there. Good luck.

Yes, I know that. There appear to be 4 wires up there and I can't see what the other is or if it splices into the brown wire...

An illusion, 1 wire tucked under itself.

I've seen repo ones but only for 8 cyl.
I have another older one with a transmitter box but haven't been able to make it work.

You can see I fit a very small one into an AD speedometer I was modifying (along with a small vacuum gauge) here:

Look at the image to the right...

Nice job, Jon!
Meter is an older Fluke 88, bought it new (early '90s), it's nice to have all my tools at home now since I retired from the g.m. dealer life.

Thanks! Soon...maybe in another month I'm going to be making a GPS speedometer for the AD truck. One that will be pretty much "plug and play" for folks using a T5 transmission, different rear end, maybe different diameter tires.

Retirement is nice, isn't it? Makes me wish I could have lived like Travis McGee in the John D. MacDonald novels. Now that you're retired, you might enjoy reading those. "The Deep Blue Goodbye" is the first one...
