Where does the inner fender sponge seal go? 1947 second series. I was delighted to find detailed instructions included with the inner fender gasket set. When I started installing, the tar paper gasket location was obvious. The sponge seal location has got me baffled. I cut the 20” length and it looks to be about 2” too long on the front of the inner fender. The rear of the inner fender looks completely different than the document. I checked in the FAM, but that seems to be 1954 and the same as this document. I’m thinking about cutting some tar paper for the straight edge where the three bolts fasten to the kick panel, and using the foam for the bendy part at the top. What did you do here?
If you bought a kit, there should have been gaskets / seals for the part of the inner fender that connects to the firewall. I don't see why a set made from tar paper wouldn't work just as well. I used weather strip adhesive to attach them to the inner fender. Here's a couple pic of my 1954, under hood and under the left front fender. Should provide some help with the sponge rubber, even though the 1947 - 1953 fenders are not exactly the same as a 1954 due to the parking lamp lenses....

Thanks for the pictures! "Front fender skirt body seal retainer" seems to have been removed from both sides of my truck. Oh, and I think the kit did come with short strips of tar paper for the rear mounting surface.
"Front fender skirt body seal retainer" are available. I replaced the originals on my truck with Inner Fender to firewall filler panels from Classic parts of America, #37-791 . Perfect fit. As far as attaching the foam strips. I drilled 1/16 holes spaced to accommodate large staples that came in the gasket kit. PM me if needed and I can walk you through it.

Thanks for the help, I might just get those, and I was thinking the same thing about using a tiny drill bit for the staple holes. I thought about just cutting my own, but at that price it would be a wash. I just need to order some other things so the shipping doesn't double the cost. It looks like I can proceed with the build and install those later.
I just pulled the correct filler panels from a truck in a Montana junkyard. The driver side is not L shaped, so it matches my truck’s original piece. I had only found the L shaped part from the usual suppliers. I think I had read that the L shaped panel was on the trucks with the parking brake foot pedal located to the left of the driver, and the other panel was on trucks with the parking brake lever to the right of the floor shifter? My truck and the truck in the junk yard both had the floor lever parking brake.
I just happen to have the driver side “L” shaped one hanging on a nail in the garage. If you enlarge the picture you’ll see the 4 sets of staple holes. I don’t need it, it’s in pretty good shape. If anyone wants it for the price of shipping from Tx just send me a PM. Regards, Dave
Dave, Is that from a truck with the parking brake pedal to the left of the driver? I'm just curious. Your link to In the stovebolt Gallery did not work.
