My 53 with 235 was tuned and would start immediately upon pushing floor starter for years. Now I changed the plugs, points and condenser and it still runs and idles smooth, with power. But since the tune up to start it after you drive it a while (go into a store for instance) I have to depress gas pedal to floor and hold it while it cranks. Never did this before New plugs/points. Rebuilt the Rochester carb and still needs pedal hold. Is it starving for fuel or flooded or did I need to adjust the timing with tuneup? Kinda lost on what to do.

I always check the timing and dwell after replacing the points.

Repeat the situation (going to the store). If it doesn't want to start, remove the air cleaner, open the throttle and spray some starting fluid inside.
If it starts up quickly then it may be fuel related. If it does not then you have eliminated one possibility.
I would repeat this test to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
It is best to take troubleshooting one step at a time.
You will get a lot of advice here but it can be too much to process at once.
