I've got a '59 Chevy 2 ton that needs a radiator. Guesstimate measurements make me think it's about the same size as the 'little' trucks of the vintage, but common sense says otherwise. Anyone know for sure (surer than me at least!), or know where I might get one?

hey there tec, welcome to the garage! got any pics of the truck available? we all like pics!! maybe you've sent some in for the gallery? I'm particularly fond of the task force trucks grin

my read of the factory assy manual sez there's one rad # for all the various 3000 series trucks, and another # for the 4&6000 trucks, tho' the diff isn't immediately obvious in the pics

yer best bet is to take the old rad to a good shop and get it recored, if the tanks aren't frapped, otherwise ya hafta find one from the right series

thanks for the welcome, and the info!

i'll have pics soon - it fires up, and isn't TOO far away, so i'm trying to collect what i need to drive the new baby home for major surgery.

yep, you guessed it - cancer. i spend too much time fixing silly little cars with too many parts for people, so it's time i learn to fix big holes in things without that many pieces.

no idea if the original radiator can still be located, that might make it interesting. i've always replaced when needed, but no idea where to find one for this thing.

assembly manual covers the big trucks? igh, time to look for a reprint, when i had a '55 bel-air, that was THE best bunch of paper i had.

Syko (Psycho was taken?)-

Welcome to the stovebolt. I think I may have a 2 ton radiator you're looking for. See a previous radiator thread . Email me or see the swap meet section (you'll have to register again, but it is free). We look forward to seeing your beast fixed up.

email sent, checking the swap meet section in a few. sykotec - dunno, different, unused, and probably descriptive, no matter how you pronounce it.

if the cancer surgery goes well, i hope to make the beast as close to original and fully useable as time and budget permits. current truck around the house is a much newer half ton chevy i'd like to donate to my dad, so i need a replacement. bigger just seems like it'd be fun.

Syko-

Reply sent. If there are owners of another '59 Viking out there, please confirm the size and shape of the 2 ton radiator (see previous thread above). This will help make sure that I have the precious gem that Syko seeks! Thanks!

Big Bolt Truck owners help us out!

Anyone have a Viking 60 that they could check out for radiator specs? Please advise!

Thanks in advance

looks like my baby doesn't have much of a peer group! i can understand if they're all as rusted as this one - sane people just don't bother with such machines.

next guesstimate is to measure the space and bolt patterns where the original radiator was, and see how far off the 'little' truck one is.

if the assembly manual says the 3000 radiator is diff from the 4000-6000, surely someone has some documentation as to HOW they're different? i figure worst case, i can make the pickup type radiator fit, it just might not be too pretty

eh, maybe they're not so common, yah?

i'm starting to think even if i find out the difference, the 'correct' radiator will be an impossible find. odds are it's getting a pickup style, deepest i can find.

no point letting correctness keep it from driving home, right?

I would think if the "big" radiator is dimentionally the same as a"little" truck, you could put a performance "little" truck radiator in with out any problems. The stocker in my '48 4400 cools my 350 just fine.
good luck-Scott

thanks, nice to see my question isn't dead!

i've concluded i'm not likely to find a 'correct' radiator even if i do sort out what the means, so an extra-deep standard pickup style is on its way. i'll let everyone know how well it does or doesn't fit, but it's going in no matter what.

if the break is between 3000 and 4000 series, i'm hoping it's just deeper, not bigger. anyone got a 'smaller' 4000 series Task Force around? either way it's going in, and i'll post more info and pictures of the ugly beast once i get it driving and home.

20 min north of the nations capital, right in the middle of town. won't i be popular with the neigbhors...
