Your grandson would be the envy of all his buddies! No loader on site means a lot of hand digging and fancy Jack work. Good luck on your bid.

It appears to have a later 235 engine in it. It could be worth looking into.

The box sides are from a newer 55 and up truck ,newer motor ,looks good on top been sitting in the dirt for awhile hopefully not to corroded from the dirt . Yes you will need a few shovels jacks and some air for tires I see there are a few extras in the box .good luck let us know if you get the prize.

The sheet metal looks promising. Grille looks pretty darned good.
I cringe when I look at how that old iron is squatting in the dirt- I hope the underside corrosion isn’t too bad.

Very attractive body style, certainly worth looking into.

FWIW, that area of Oklahoma, averages 31” of precip and 228 sunny days per year.
The precipitation is below National average, sunshine above average. If the soil is of loose , well drained composition there is hope.

I think the whole bed is from a 55ish truck, including the tailgate with the Chevrolet stamping on it. The pre-AD trucks had a plain tailgate, and the bed was narrower as well.
Might be a good project, but the wheel & brake components are probably pretty rusty from being buried in the dirt. Hopefully not too bad.

The serial number indicates it's a 1946, but it's missing the first number/s for plant identification...

DBA554708 here's the way I see it,

x = Assembly Plant (1 = Flint, 3 = St Louis, 5 = Kansas City, MO, etc.)
D = 1946 second design (C = 1946 first design, E = 1947)
B = this is a typo, could be P which is the 1/2 ton truck
A = Month (Jan)
554708 = Unit number

She's definitely been sitting there a while, the way it's sunk into the dirt.

What about the horizontal ridges in the sides of the box? I am not familiar with that detail.

I think the DBA number is an engine serial number.
D = second series 1946
B = 3100 series (1/2-ton)
A = Flint engine plant
Before 1955 many states title vehicles using the engine serial number.
I looked at the pictures and it’s definitely an Art Deco style truck. Production of these trucks continued into 1947 and many were titled as 47’s.

Frank, I think you solved it...my head took me to the chassis number, not thinking about the engine number. With the high unit number it makes more sense now...they got the info off of the title!
