| | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,904 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,904 | I had to give the hood of my '48 a pretty good slam to get it closed and latched. I now pull the lever and it doesn't pop up.
Is loosening the hinge bolts in the cab the only way to go or is there another trick?

1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

I first pulled the lever all the way out while pushing on the left part of the hood nose sideways to the right. No luck. It was still tight.
Then I pulled the lever and pushed on the right nose sideways to the left. It was loose! I continued to push it around and to the left and the hood came open. I'll now start studying the install and latch adjustments!

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,279 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,279 | The funny thing to me is that in the Chevrolet Shop Manual it says to make sure that the 4 bolts on the latch are not tight, and the latch is pushed all the way rearward before closing the hood. It then goes on to tell you that failure to do so will make it impossible to open the hood. End Of Discussion!. No further tips on how to open it!
I guess if it happens, you need to go buy a new truck once it runs out of oil or coolant.

I put a rag on the new repop grille and with a little pressure while pulling the release lever got the hood to pop open. I must be missing something with the alignment. maybe I need a gallon of gas and a match. the hood is stuck down again
