Seen these sitting off the road between Marysville/Yuba City and Brownsville California while I was out there paying my respects to a fallen friend and visiting family two weeks ago᠁joe

Wow!

That looks like a graft from three vehicles.

It would be interesting see what they did to get that long frame?

Thanks, Joe

I second airport limos as they would be hard to maneuver on tight turns unpaved roads.

Jerry, am I sensing a touch of fondness for California, in some of your recent replies?

They were used in Yosemite National Park. There are also some really cool 30's busses set on a modern chassis.

Mark, I left in 1980, and the last thing I did west of the state line was get rid of a lot of excess liquid. It's a good place to be from- - - - -a long way from, that is!

I remember seeing the long burbs like that when I was a kid -- mainly around Logan Airport (Boston) and Portland. There's an article somewhere online about the company that did those conversions. But as I recall, they were primarily airport transportation as Wayne and Evan said above.

Thanks Woog -- Stageway was the one I was thinking of but couldn't remember....

I thought it would be cool to own one of those ... until I starting thinking about all the glass to clean (doggie nose prints ....)

In the late 1930's White made a bunch of tour buses for the National Park Service, sort of Suburbans on steroids. They were used at Glacier and Yosemite, and maybe a few other places. Since they had crash box transmissions, the drivers were known as "gearjammers". In the 1980's Ford took on a full restoration of a bunch of "Red Jammers" for Glacier, retrofitting the bodies to F-450 frames and running gear. They spent something like $200K per bus. I rode one on a tour of the park several years ago. Now they run gasoline/Propane V8 engines and automatic transmissions, but they still call the driver/tour guide a "jammer".

I know this is an older thread but I saw one of these or similarities, can't remember if it was a burb or it coulda been a Biscayne or shoebox in a wrecking yard in Salem Oregon or south Keizer. Anyone on here from that area?

Going back to the original post, I have a friend whose family has lived in that area forever. I sent his dad that picture and he said they were bought new when they were building the Oroville dam to haul workers to and from town. They got auctioned off when that project was done and have been sitting pretty much ever since.

Apparently the guy had been trying to sell the pair for $9000 for a lot of years. Not sure if they are still for sale, but if so that might be a pretty solid price these days.

I know they have been sitting there for a extremely long time. My sister lives up in Dobbins and I want to say they were there in the early 80s when I visited her then. I know they were there 15 years ago when I was helping my sister on her property that year. And I’m sure I’ve seen him for sale several times over the years᠁.joe
