With Spring around the corner along w warmer temps for some of us I am getting excited to get back in the drivers seat to once again. I just stare at it covered in snow and now melting.
I got a few idea’s I want to do once I move it to the driveway. Clean all underneath especially under the Cab area’s followed w a coating of some sort of protectant. I’d like to change my door lock w replacements for both doors w keys. Truck only has one door lock.
Bought truck w valance panel removed. I’m going to put this back on also.
Other than those mentioned I should be good to go….can’t wait to get on the road again!

Our AD trucks only have one keyed lock. Passenger side. You lock the drivers door (push interior handle forward) slide over exiting via the passenger door and lock. The leading theory I've read is this keeps drivers out of the traffic lane when unlocking the door. Sounds good to me.

moparguy With original pretty stiff seat covering material not hard to slide across locking drivers side as you go. I make my own covers using fairly stiff canvas type material,works OK. Seldom lock but can .

sambo42xa I try to truck all winter when it's clear,sometimes just go out and warm it up and just sit in there or go down to the river and watch ice go by. Also go swig my coffee with the regulers at Moonshine bout 6 of us .

I don’t have a heater in mine!! I guess either bundle up or time to get a heater!

What is “AD”? Also, are u telling me my truck comes like this….passenger side lock only?
I am going to try and do the drivers side push down lock method. I did not know this. Doesn’t show this in my O&M for the 52.

Yep, what Martin said and AD trucks only have one keyed (exterior) door lock and it's on the passanger side. Interior, you pull the door handle back to open, push forward to lock. Should work on both doors.

Same thing on my '57 Low Cab Forward, one lock on the passenger side.

I went out and tried the lock system and, darn! Yep, it works like u said. Learn something new everyday.

If it wasn’t standard, or optional, I’m thankful one of the previous owners added door locking handles on both sides of my ‘57 3200. If I lock passenger side with inside handle, I can’t unlock it with key on outside though. Interferes with being a gentleman when my wife is with and letting her in first. I push both handles forward from inside while driving. I don’t want unexpected door openings.

Snow has cleared, went out and registered her the other day…$12., put $45. of fuel, drove her around for a bit and ran well. Stopped at locksmith and had two keys made.
Do a few things I planned next, and get out to enjoy the Spring weather!
For some of you New Englanders I hope you do the same as well.

The one side only lock feature is OK when I'm in the country where I don't even bother to take the key out of the ignition but when I lived in the city it was a major hassle. Sliding across the seat isn't an option on an old 1-ton with the shift lever and the parking brake sticking out of the floor. Then I added the brownie and that lever plus my size 12 boots ... well forget it. I put hot-rod door poppers on both sides and now I can lock both sides from the driver's seat and unlock them with the key fob. Much better! If I leave it for an extended time I still lock the passenger side with the key in case the battery runs flat. If you lock the passenger door with the handle, you can't unlock it with the key. Be forewarned.

It is kind of a PITA, but the cab is narrow enough that one could reach across to unlock the driver's side door with the remote and then walk around and get in.

Snow is starting to melt here, but not quite gone yet. May be warm enough to paint soon.

moparguy While on that subject of door secrets,now my 48 2-ton the windows crank up opposite the 51,s. Door latches are reversed too,is that the way they came ??

sambo48 Oh you'll need a heater in new hampshire,even if it's the cheap one ! That is all I have in Il. I suspect you have to endure salt,so have to wait till roads are clear.
