I want to repaint the frame on my 1939 3/4 JD. It is painted satin black at the moment, done in 1977. I will probably use spray gun and a brush. What type of paint would you folks recommend? I'm driving the truck to Bowling Green, Kentucky from southeast Michigan next summer for the VCCA 60th Anniversary and want to look my best.

You might try ALK-200 from PPG auto.
It’s a industrial grade enamel that flows our really well when sprayed and you can brush it on with very few brush marks.
I love it. You can get it in high/semi/low gloss.
It’s about $20.00 a quart.
After your drive, you can just brush in any chips you find. You won’t be able to tell.
It takes about 2 hours to fully dry and about a week to fully cure.

Just remember to prep the surface.

I have also had great luck with ALK-200. Used it on my frame and all my black parts. A hardner is available for it too that makes it even tougher. Doesn't fade in the sun.
