Anyone have recommendation of what to buy/not buy? My usage will include low amp for sheet metal. Thanks

What is the reason your current hood supposedly can't be used for TIG? For the past 10 years or so, I've used an auto-darkening hood from Harbor Freight- - - -their higher priced one with adjustable darkness and response time. The only difference I've been able to see between stick welding and MIG or TIG is the fact that there's little to no smoke, requiring a slightly darker lens to filter out all the harmful light. Jerry

TIG is listed under other models. Doesn't really say why. I suspect switching speed or shading, but don't really know. The shading is 10.

The 3M Speedglass helmets are some of the finest money can buy. I'm also curious why the helmet you have is rated for only Mig and Stick. I'm not able to think of a reason a helmet rated for Mig and Stick, couldn't be used for TIG. I did some searching, and I can't find anything about it. Sorry I wasn't any help.

The automatics are nice because most of them can be adjusted to a higher numbered or darker lens. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 1,438 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 1,438 | Thanks for the feedback. I've found the switching time is .65ms for the one I have and the others produced at that time are from .15 to .4. However another model is also rated at .65 so guess that is not the major factor. I've made up my mind to get a newer one anyway. Some of them are rated by the minimum amps you are going to use. Not sure what my min amps will be. I have a lot of research to do yet.
