I have a Chevy 235 straight six engine and the muffler was busted when I bought this truck. Any recommedations for this stock truck with regards to a muffler? Not looking for it to sound like a race car and more interested in a quiet period-like stock sound.
Contact Waldrons Exhaust , they should be able to provide a stock replacement . I ordered a complete system from them (same as stock system) for my truck. I've attached pics of an OEM muffler and chart with the original component part numbers.

Take some measurements and head to your local farm store. One of their tractor mufflers will fit and sound period correct. Cheaper too.

The further away from the engine the muffler is located, the nicer and quieter all will be. At least try to get it from right under you. If your muffler is right beneath your cab the vibrations, noise, etc naturally associated with its operation can be irritating. Good luck.

George K Did you notice that heat baffle on the bed wood above the muffler ?? Also a tin strap with an elongated eye bolt to clamp the 6 inch muffler to the hanger. This is all repairable at home, like a practical truck should be. Take your snips and cut out a tin strap to fit it,clamp 'er up !!
