1941 Chevy COE I’m working on the truck for my daughter and she wants the windshield to crank out like it did originally I was wondering if anyone rebuilds the crank part I think that the 1 I have would work ok if could be machined so I could use a bushing on 1 side of the shaft my hole is egg shaped but if I hold it in place it works

My '42 crank did not work too well, so I removed it and had a machinist friend take a look at it. The steel shaft goes through the aluminum body of the mechanism and one hole was wallowed out as you describe. He enlarged and rounded the hole and made a bushing to fit and now it works fine. If the gear teeth are worn badly you may still have problems but in my case the bit of wear is not fatal yet.

That’s really all I need is to have bushing made and the hole machined at the corrrect spot but machine shops around here don’t want to be bothered with a job like that

Are you able to find a small block of aluminum you could band saw to the correct thickness. Use a hole saw to get the correct outside diameter and then a regular drill bit to get the inside diameter. Then use a regular drill bit to create the hole in your existing part to receive the new bushing. You could cut a keyway to make sure the new bushing did not spin or come loose. Wedge it tight with a tapered key. Kind of what a machinist would do except not on a lathe.

My cousin is a retired machinist. I have reached out to him to see if he would be interested for a little pocket money to do it. He has a small shop in his garage. I will let you know what he says.

My cousin got back to me. He does that kind of work. He would need a detailed drawing or the part itself. He could repair with a bushing or duplicate the entire part. Let me know if you are interested. You could mail him the part. He is in West Virginia. Here is a link to pics of some of his work and his shop.
