I have an older Frantz TP bypass filter for my project (1960 C10 with the 235 straight 6) but it leaks and I cannot find grommets/o-rings to make it seal up again. I read a bunch of threads here which mention the spin on option described here. I don't intend to go full flow but I do have the triangular set of mounting holes on my block. According to that link I can bolt up a Trans-Dapt 1028 and filter oil that way. In one section of the article it says "Our favored Trans-Dapt 1028 Spin-On Adapter is used and is available with the modification for Bypass Filtration that reduces the outlet port to 1/16" to work exactly like the stock system". Does that mean I can just purchase and use the 1028 as-is or will I still need to fabricate the 1/16" reducer? If there is an easier path to installing a bypass filter I am open to other options as well. I am a little surprised there aren't many affordable options for replacement bypass filters at the various parts sites online (classic parts, LMC, etc).

The simplest approach is to put an ad in the "parts wanted" forum for a Fram or AC canister filter. Yes, if you put a much less efficient spin on filter on you'll need to restrict the flow. Tap one of the ports on the adapter for a pipe thread, put an Allen pipe plug into it, and drill a 1/16" hole into the center. Don't scrap the Frantz filter- - - - -some of us can fix them so they don't leak, and I'd love to have one.

Thanks,

I may try to track down some NOS parts for the Frantz or have some local place make me some custom o-rings for it. I feel like it shouldn't be that hard but I need to look into that. The new parts Frantz sells are for a newer model they still produce and don't look like they'll work for my old setup. I can place a parts wanted ad if that doesn't pan out.

A supply of the proper diameter O ring material and a tube of Super Glue is all you need to make a good seal. You can find both on Ebay. Just be sure to cut the rubber cord at exactly 90 degrees, and use some kind of V block to precisely align the ends as you glue them together. I used to have an O ring splicing kit that had a cutting guide, a splicing fixture, and single edge razor blades in it.

haha wow that's a great workaround and I am embarrassed I did not think of this myself. Thanks again for the tips! I will give this a shot first.
