I need (want) to destroy the one-sided-sticky gasket that’s about 1/4” wide and maybe 3’ long (the part not painted over in the pic). The sheet metal cover under the window crank and inner door handle.
What is the name of the gasket… or what kind of ‘gasket’ would I use in its place?

You should be able to find some sponge rubber sticky sided weatherstripping at your local hardware. Probably similar to what's on there now.
