Actually, the whole truck seems to be almost all original. I've gotten the code (AGCAII223) off the engine and determined that it's a 216 built for a 3800 (the AGCA part). But I haven't been able to find out what the rest of the code means (II223). I've checked several of the web sites that have engine code information but no luck so far. Am I missing something really obvious? Can anyone clear up this little mystery for me?

These numbers started each model year at 1001 for the first unit built, so yours was the 10223rd AGCA unit built (at Flint). That prefix was also used for the 3600 series.

That's what I was thinking but the first two of last five characters sure look like "I" not "1" but I guess they used different looking letters/numbers 56 years ago. Now I just have to get under it to get the numbers from the transmission and rear axle. Then fix the radiator, tune it up, repair the brakes, get a new clutch ...
This detective work sure is fun!
