Just finished the bed floor on My 1954 chevy 3100 and it looks GREAT!! My question deals with the tailpipe heat sheild under the bed floor. I understand the tailpipe heat sheild go"s on theunderside above the rear axle . HOW MUCH clearence do I need between the Heatsheild and the tailpipe should I use HI -temp paint on the heat sheild ? How hot does it get ? dont want to set my bed floor on fire!!!!! THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The heat shield installs so that air can flow thru between the wood and the shield (front to back). I doubt that if you get 1" or more of clearance between it and the tailpipe that you'd need hi-temp paint on it. Either way, I doubt you'll set your bed floor on fire.

I would suggest you go to Mar-K's website and review the Heatshield installation instructions . It answers many of your questions.
