One last thought, brake fluid. I've had good luck revitalizing old rubber by giving it a long bath in brake fluid.

Yep, that's a fact. If you use brake fluid on old rubber, be sure to do a good job wiping it off and drying before placing it where it will contact paint.

It'll be difficult to put brake fluid on it and not get it on the paint. If I'm correct in how I'm reading it the rule of thumb I use is just cut the old one off and replace it with a new one if new grommets are available.

Also learned from Jim Carter himself that hydraulic jack oil wont hurt rubber brake parts. | | |
