I'm getting ready to replace the clutch, throwout bearing in a stock 1950 3100 217.

Do any of you have preferred brands or sources for the clutch?

I intend to order this clutch kit from Rock Auto unless anybody has a better suggestion.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1950,truck,3.5l+217cid+l6,1487136,transmission-manual,clutch+kit,1993

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=534333&cc=1487136&pt=1993&jsn=425

Classic Parts charges $100 more but I'd be willing to bet that they're made by the same company

https://www.classicparts.com/1938-53-Clutch-Pressure-Plate-Kit-9-1_8/productinfo/90-005K/

I'd appreciate any suggestions, tips, other sources , etc. if there's anything I nedd to know.

Luk is a good brand. They have been around for years. They do a lot of original equipment.
Don't get a reman. You never know if it is any good or not.

Thanks George and Mike.

I'll do a search for Luk and Ft Wayne Trans and see what comes up.

If you can't find LUK, I've found Exedy clutches & pressure plates to be very good, also. If you were here in Dallas, I'd send you to Wade Gear to get your flywheel resurfaced...they turn old ones into like new ones.

I put an Exedy clutch in my '72 240Z. It is a top grade product and reasonably priced.

I'm just having trouble finding a listing for this truck. Even Luk doesn't list 1950 Checy trucks. They list a '48 Chevy Fleetline which is probaly the same but 49-52 trucks are not listed.

For what it's worth, back in May 2020 I ordered 9 1/8 clutch NCF 1104123 from Napa. It came in a Napa branded box but the clutch and pressure plate were stamped LUK. My parts spreadsheet shows NCF 1104123 and next to it has LUK 04-123.

The Luk 04-123 is a lot less expensive from Summit or CarID or Carolina Clutch than it is branded as Napa (go figure).

Thanks for that part number information. I'll check it out.
The CarID site is the one that doesn't list clutches for the truck or even for the 49-53 Chevy's. That's why I had to look up the '48 Chevy Fleetline. It is a 9 1/8 inch clutch.

Interestingly today, CarID does show the correct year and model. I don't know why it wouldn't come up yesterday.

Anyway it only lists the Perfection clutch kit that Rock Auto sells as fitting the truck.

https://www.carid.com/service-type/clutch-replacement.html

The Luk brand will only come up if I type the part number listed above but doesn't show fitment for vehicles between 1949 and 1953.

https://www.carid.com/luk/repset-clutch-kit-mpn-04-123.html

It appears that there is a difference in the clutch assembly for trucks built between 1949 and 1952. Do any of you know what that difference is?

Even the part numbers for the 9 1/8" Perfection clutch are not the same prior to 1949 or after 1952.

It appears that the kit from classic uses a 9 1/8 inch disc and a 10" cover so I would ( and have ) use the 10" unit from Rock.

Are you saying that even though a 9 1/8" clutch disc is specified, the 10" clutch disc will work?
