My father-in-law said I could sell his 1954 6100 boom truck for him. It has a small block chevy v8 (old style with the breather in the front of the block) with a 4 speed manual tranny. It is all complete except the radiator is missing and the body is in great shape. I have a few pics of it on http:\\www.geocities.com\brujones1. He wanted to know was it was worth....He said $5000 but I dunno.

You might want to move this post into the Trucks for Sale area. I would expect a 6100 to be real nice to get $5,000 for it.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

I looked at those pictures. He'd be lucky to get $500.

Whooeee, I best put my Yard Dog on the market. If an old broke down, missing parts 6100 is worth $5000, mine ought to be worth $7500. It runs and works.

I can't get to the pictures, but i'll echo what others have said.. for $5,000 that truck would have to be in mighty fine condition.

A running, driving, functional early 50's Chevy two ton with a fully functional crane just sold for just over $1700, with a tandem axle rear.

I personally sold a '50 2 ton that ran like a sewing machine, no rust thru (just light surface rust) with a working hoist for $1,000.

Out here in farm country I stumble across guys with old working trucks parked and collecting mice/dust/rust.. they all have this idea that their trucks are hot collectors items and worth buku bucks.. and they all keep sitting.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

Boy do you have that right, in are farm country its the same way, its still worth what they paid, or one day Iam gonna fix it up, all 8 of them in the junk pile. We could solve the world shortage of steel on what farmers let rust away.

Just around the corner from me is a guy with an old 30's Chevy truck.. no hood, motor half missing, sitting in weeds that normally hide it all together.

Wheels all gone, bed is gone.. probably hasn't even laid eyes on it in 10 years.. but as soon as somebody asks about it, he figures the only reason you're asking is because it's worth big money.

Oh I was gunna fix that up, he says.

I guess he was waiting till it turned into a pile of dust, that way it would be easy to just scoop up into a barrel and move.

Some other folks just can't stand to think you might make a dollar on something they sold you.. they'd rathe let it rot to dust than let somebody make a buck.

I have a guy here locally that has an entire junkyard of "classics". He does have some stuff that is rare. The only problem is that he wants way too much for anything that anybody wants. He got a couple of books that list prices for high quality restorations, etc. He thinks that everything in there is worth a lot of money. Consequently, no one will deal with him. All the people out here avoid going to him for anything if they don't have too.

He has a bunch of five window cabs, has an original from-the-factory stovebolt refrigerated milk truck, etc. I took a friend there to show him some stuff - he asked about a 68 Charger, nothing special, 383 auto, rough body, not running - he wanted $3500 for it.
