I have what I beleive to be a 1928 GMC 1 ton truck with a split flathead 6 cylinder engine made by Pontiac.
The distributor, Delco 639A, is toast, I think. we were cranking it over, and the distributor body started to turn. So much so that it tore off the cap and yanked the smaller wire that comes from the coil right off!
Anyway, I'm trying to remove it, but it only comes up so far, about 1/2 inch or so. I'm afraid to pry too hard on it for fear of breaking anything else. I've checked inside the valve cover, but I can't see anything there that would be keeping it from coming out.
Is there anyone out there who might have a clue as to what's keeping it in place? Does anyone have a source for rebuilt Delco distributors?
Thanks
Steve
